Beginning Guitar

(Year-Long Course)

The course offers beginning students the opportunity to learn to play the guitar. It includes reading guitar music from musical staff, guitar tablature, and chords. No previous knowledge of music or guitar is necessary. The students will learn to play songs in a group setting. Potential students may need to obtain their own guitar for use in this class. It is recommended that students purchase a Spanish style guitar with nylon strings and a size of guitar where the student feels comfortable playing it in an upright sitting position. Folk guitars with light gauge steel strings are acceptable as well. Try to avoid getting an electric guitar since portability is an issue and having to carry an amplifier around makes things a bit of a chore. We are looking into the possibility of having some guitars loaned to us or donated to the program.
